NCRPO: Metro Manila LGUs collect over P33.7 m in fines from ordinance violators from Aug. 1 to 15

Local government units in Metro Manila collected more than P33.7 million in penalties in the first 15 days of this month following the arrest of a total of 119,497 violators of local ordinances, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) disclosed on Sunday, Aug. 17.

NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said the aggressive campaign against ordinance violators is part of the measures to instill discipline in Metro Manila, and likewise an early intervention to prevent various crimes.

“The continuous enforcement of ordinances demonstrates the shared responsibility of the police and barangays in promoting peace, discipline, and safety within communities,” said Aberin.

“The strict enforcement of local ordinances is also aimed at upholding community discipline and maintaining public order,” he added.

Based on the NCRPO data, a total of 43,356 violators were fined while 75,598 were warned or released. On the other hand, a total of 543 violators were charged.

The operations were conducted from Aug. 1 to 15.

The ordinances include drinking and smoking in public places, roaming the streets without shirts, urinating or dumping garbage in public, and curfew violations involving minors.

Other infractions included karaoke use beyond allowed hours, vandalism, road obstructions, and traffic code violations.
