That bad “F word” through hand gestures put the owner of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in big trouble after the video of the road rage incident went viral and was monitored by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the SUV, a Toyota Prado, was already placed under alarm and that the registered owner was already issued with a show cause order (SCO).
While the LTO is yet to determine if the registered owner was the one driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, Mendoza said the scheduled hearing on Aug. 28 will shed light if another person made the dirty finger.
Once the identity of the driver is established, Mendoza said a 90-day preventive suspension will be imposed on his license for charges of reckless driving and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
The issuance of the SCO stemmed from the Facebook post of a netizen showing the driver of the Toyota Prado cutting into a lane and subsequently making an offensive hand gesture to another motorist.
Mendoza said they obtained the license plate of the vehicle from the video and served as the basis in issuing summons to the registered owner, a resident of Makati City.
The LTO has been advising motorists to keep their cool while on the road and refrain from engaging in any road rage, citing several cases in the past wherein those road rage would result in death, serious injury and serious damage on vehicles—aside from the ensuing criminal charges.
On the part of the LTO, Mendoza said a number of motorists already lost their privilege to drive after their licenses were revoked due to road rage.
