Fair weather on August 18; scattered rains may prevail over parts of VisMin later this week — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said most of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies on Monday, Aug. 18, with scattered rains expected later in the week over parts of Visayas and Mindanao due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said on Sunday, Aug. 17, that a low-pressure area (LPA) located 900 kilometers west of Central Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), had no effect on the country.
The LPA is expected to move toward Vietnam or China.
On Monday, generally fair weather is expected over most of the country, although isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may still occur.
Badrina noted that a new LPA may develop over the northeastern part of the PAR.
From Tuesday to Wednesday, Aug. 19 to 20, the ITCZ may affect parts of Visayas and Mindanao, bringing moderate to, at times, heavy rains.
The ITCZ is a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, leading to the development of rain clouds.
By Thursday, Aug. 21, the ITCZ is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over Bicol Region, Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.
PAGASA warned residents to be alert for possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
