Visiting Japan has long been a dream for many, from tasting its signature dishes to experiencing its vibrant culture. Now, that experience is within reach with Modo, a food and living concept that brings Japan’s top kitchen, lifestyle, and café brands into one space, introducing Filipino homes to a more intentional way of living through a pop-up in Manila.
From August 2 to 27, Modo at Mitsukoshi BGC showcases Japan’s craft and culture through retail, dining, and workshops featuring top kitchen and home brands. These include the Aladdin Graphite toaster oven, designed by Sengoku Aladdin with retro aesthetics and patented heating that reaches 200°C in just 0.2 seconds; Ippodo Tea, a Kyoto tea house founded in 1717 and dedicated to preserving the tradition of high-quality Japanese tea; Vermicular cookware, crafted by Aichi Dobby with cast-iron expertise and rooted in the washoku principle of simplicity and flavor preservation; and Unir Coffee, a Kyoto-based specialty roaster since 2006, committed to world-class standards from seed to cup and home to two Japanese Barista Champions.
According to the Modo team, it’s an experience where visitors can explore, taste, and take home products that reflect Japan’s balance of function and beauty. “We created Modo to reintroduce the art of daily living—where even brewing coffee or preparing a home-cooked meal becomes a small act of beauty.”
Focused on craftsmanship, mindful consumption, and functional design, the brand offers well-made tools, quality beverages, and experiences that enhance daily routines. Its name and logo highlight the connection between the Philippines, Japan, and shared meals, representing a lifestyle shaped by both cultures and grounded in quality and simplicity.
In addition to its retail and café offerings, Modo will host pocket events and culinary workshops, including live demos, cooking sessions, and private tastings, to give guests a closer look at its approach to simple, functional living. Whether you enjoy coffee or tea, or are looking for practical tools for daily use, Modo offers a way to experience a more intentional lifestyle, the Japanese way.
