DAVAO CITY – Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Davao City second district Rep. Omar Duterte, and Pwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat (PPP) Rep. Harold Duterte asked the people here on Sunday to continue praying for former President Rodrigo Duterte who remains at The Hague, Netherlands.
The four lawmakers, speaking at the Pamulak and Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan at San Pedro Square, wished that he return home and celebrate festivals with the people of Davao.
Dela Rosa said he was glad to celebrate the Kadayawan Festival but appealed to the public not to forget the Duterte patriarch in their prayers. “May his problems be resolved and his cases settled, and may he soon return to the city so we can all fully celebrate Kadayawan together.”
Go thanked the people of Davao for their support and also remembered the former Chief Executive. He called on the them to continue praying for his health, safety, and freedom.
Omar reiterated the senators' appeal. He encouraged people to continue praying for his grandfather, who he plans to visit in September with his siblings, acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II, Isabelle Duterte, and father, Rep. Paolo Duterte.
Omar thanked the people of Davao, the diplomatic corps, deputy mayors and the 11 tribes, and the local government for making this city’s premier festival a success.
“This celebration is not only an expression of gratitude for the many blessings we’ve received, but also a great tribute to our culture, global unity, and the gifts of nature that give life to our city. Thank you because our Kadayawan 2025 has been very successful,” Omar said.
Omar underscored the Kadayawan Festival’s significance in strengthening unity amid diversity, which reminds the people of Davao’s unity despite different origins.
Harold immersed himself in this city’s yearly tradition by joining the most anticipated Kadayawan major events on Sunday and highlighted this city’s abundance, music, talent, and artistry on the Floral Float and Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan parade.
First district Rep. Paolo thanked the people expressed solidarity with them. He said the Kadayawan is a reminder that even in difficult times, their spirit remains strong, grateful, and compassionate.
“Happy Kadayawan to everyone! Stay safe, and let’s continue caring and working together for a more prosperous Davao City,” Paolo said as he encouraged everyone to take pride in their roots while embracing the progress ahead.
Acting Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II highlighted the deeper meaning of the festival. He said hat it is a celebration of abundance and Davaoeños’ identity and resilience. “The festivity reminds us of who we are — resilient, respectful of our roots, and united in diversity,” he said.
Sixteen contingents competed in this year’s Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, highlighted by the return of three-time champion Sindac Anib’s Performing Arts Guild from Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
Event organizer Harold Quibete said the competition is evenly divided, with eight school-based entries from Davao City and eight groups in the open category. Both Sindac Anib and last year’s defending champion are eyeing to protect their crowns in the open division.
Winners in the open and school-based categories will each take home P1 million, a plaque, and 150 medals. Second placer will receive P500,000, P400,000 for third, P300,000 for fourth, and P200,000 for fifth, along with 10 consolation prizes of P50,000 each.
Awardees for Best in Music, Best Choreographer, and Best in Artistic Design will get P50,000 each.
For the Pamulak sa Kadayawan, six floats competed in the big category, 12 in the small category, and 10 floats participated as non-competing entries. The grand champion in the ‘’dako’’ or big division will win P800,000, while the top float in the ‘’gamay’’(small) division will receive P500,000.
