ILOILO CITY – Authorities were able to stop the reselling of a stolen pickup truck via Facebook in Pototan town, Iloilo province.
The Land Transportation Office-Regional Law Enforcement Section (LTO-RLES) and Pototan Municipal Police Station (MPS) recovered the carnapped Nissan Navarra pickup truck last Friday, Aug. 15.
LTO-RLES chief Jeru Germain Guzman said an LTO-6 enforcement officer pretended to be a buyer on Facebook marketplace to be able to retrieve the vehicle reported stolen last January.
The two persons who possessed the vehicle claimed they were not aware that it was stolen when they purchased it from a dealer in Balasan town almost two months ago.
The duo voluntarily surrendered the vehicle, which will be turned over to the PNP Highway Patrol Group.
“The public is advised to exercise caution when purchasing second-hand vehicles and to verify ownership and registration details with proper authorities,” Pototan police chief Police Major Bryan Alamo said.
