Two Japanese nationals were shot and killed by riding-in-tandem suspects along Malvar Street in Malate, Manila, on Friday night, August 15.
According to initial reports, a taxi had stopped along Malvar Street at around 10 p.m. to drop off passengers when the assailants approached and opened fire on the victims.
Witnesses said one of the suspects took a bag from one of the victims before speeding off toward Adriatico Street.
Both victims died at the scene.
In a statement to the Manila Bulletin, Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson Major Philipp Ines confirmed that a follow-up operation is ongoing as investigators work to determine the identities of the gunmen and establish the full motive behind the attack.
Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims pending notification of their families.
Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area and interviewing witnesses to aid in the investigation.
