Kids fighting cancer benefit from outreach activity

DAVAO CITY – Children battling cancer at the House of Hope in the Southern Philippines Medical Center here benefited from an outreach activity on Saturday, Aug. 16, led by the Praise & Worship Family, in partnership with the Mark Lester Ministry, in coordination with the offices of first district Rep. Paolo Duterte and acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II.
Hundreds of young patients and their families received agricultural goods, stand fans, and a water dispenser.

A shared meal and a lively program filled with songs and entertainment from Praise and Worship Family members who traveled from across the country were held.
Leecarlo Manalang of the Praise & Worship Family from Caloocan City said the experience was profoundly moving.
“We thought we were here to give them strength, but their courage and hope are far greater than ours. I was overwhelmed and moved to tears. This renewed my faith and gave me more determination to continue doing this mission," Manalang said.
“Our goal is simple: To extend blessings and bring joy to these children. This is just the beginning of more missions to come,” Melany Uddin, a member of the group and first-time visitor from Makati City, said.
Parents of young patients thanked them and shared personal stories of resilience.
Mel, a mother who has been staying at the House of Hope for seven months, said her child is now showing signs of improvement despite having Stage 4 cancer.
“When we arrived, he was weak and had lost his hair. Now he feels a little better. Thank you for the help and for making time for us,” Mel said in the local dialect.
Another parent, Josephine, recounted her daughter’s decade-long battle with blood cancer. “She was only five when diagnosed. She has had two relapses, but now she is 16. We are grateful that her life has been extended. We are happy for today’s visit,” she said.
The House of Hope serves as a halfway home for pediatric cancer patients and their families. It provides free accommodation, psychosocial support, and other services to ease the burden of prolonged treatment.
