Woman embezzles P900,000 company fund in online 'sabong'

BACOLOD CITY – A 30-year-old woman was recently arrested in Barangay Cabug here for embezzling around P900,000 from her former employer for online “sabong” or cockfighting.

Police Capt. Glenn Montaño, head of Police Station 10, said the suspect worked in a virtual marketing company here for eight years as an accountant.
The suspect was addicted to online sabong and admitted placing bets with the money for two years.
The company discovered the missing amount two years ago.
The suspect received a subpoena last January and was aware that she has other warrants of arrest.
Police have served an arrest warrant for qualified theft against the suspect.
Montaño said bail was set at P40,000. The suspect is detained at Police Station 10.
