BACOLOD CITY – Police seized illegal drugs worth P29.8 million and arrested 807 suspected drug pushers from Jan. 1 to July 31.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, in a media briefing at the provincial police headquarters here on Wednesday, Aug. 13, said 645 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted where four kilos of shabu valued at P29.7 million and 154.499 grams of marijuana worth P18,539.88 were recovered.
Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental police director, reiterated their commitment to eradicate illegal drugs in the community.
De Chavez said 1,550 wanted persons were arrested, 159 most wanted and 1,391 other wanted persons.
More than 700 anti-illegal gambling operations were conducted and 1,846 individuals were arrested and P250,679.30 in bet money were confiscated.
In the campaign against loose firearms, 155 persons were arrested in 161 police operations, with 179 firearms confiscated and 209 firearms surrendered, deposited, or abandoned.
De Chavez said these accomplishments contributed to the reduction of crimes in the province in the past months.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) apprehended a 41-year-old drug pusher and recovered 1.5 kilos of suspected shabu worth P10.2 million in a buy-bust operation in Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Thursday, Aug. 14.
Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, PRO-NIR spokesperson, identified the suspect as Franklin, of Bacong, Negros Oriental.
The suspect is under the custody of the Dumaguete City Police Station. He faces appropriate charges.
