BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded eight dengue fatalities as of Aug. 2.
The PHO said 3,813 cases have been recorded from Jan. 1 to Aug. 2, an increase of 62.46 percent or 1,466 compared to the same period in 2024 with only 2,347.
Ten out of 31 local government units (LGUs) have dengue cases.
Bago City has the highest with 898, followed by La Carlota City with 382; Kabankalan City, 352; San Carlos City, 196; Cauayan, 148; Isabela, 147; Silay City, 144; Hinigaran, 127; La Castellana, 104, and Pontevedra, 100.
Age range was six months to 94. Age group with most cases is 11 to 20, the PHO said.
The seventh fatality was reported last April – a 49-year-old woman in Bago City.
The first death was an 18-year-old man in Isabela town last January, followed by a 22-year-old man from Murcia town, 13-year-old boy from San Carlos City, 17-year-old girl in Ilog town, a nine-year-old girl in Silay City, and a 16-year-old boy in Manapla town.
