Elaiza Yulo hopes to step out of the shadows of her brothers, Carlos and Eldrew, as she aims to carve a name for herself by competing in the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
Gymnastic Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion she is sending Elaiza to the biennial meet where she is expected to join forces with her older brother Carlos, a double-gold medalist in the 2024 Paris Olympics who has won nine gold medals in the SEAG.
“She started practicing already and she’s doing well because she injured (her ankle),” Carrion said.
In a previous interview, Elaiza expressed her excitement to compete with her older brother, adding that his presence will give her a morale boost.
Meanwhile, Carlos is also in deep preparations for the upcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia on Oct. 19 to 25.
GAP has yet to finalize its roster for the SEAG, but Carrion aims to have Paris Olympians Emma Malabuyo and Aleah Finnegan in the fold.
Unfortunately, this year’s edition of the SEAG only offers one apparatus to compete per athlete. There will also be no team events and all-around competition.
