Police are investigating the possible link between the P802-million suspected “shabu” or crystal meth found inside sacks of chicken feed in Mariveles, Bataan on Thursday, Aug. 14, and the P10-billion drug haul of the Philippine Navy (PN) in Masinloc, Zambales in June.
Police Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., regional director of Central Luzon Police Regional Office (PRO-3), said an investigation was launched to determine the source of the illegal drugs discovered along the shoreline of Barangay Sisiman.
“I believe there was a connection because of the similarities in the packaging of the drugs. They were placed in tea bags with a Chinese label,” he said.
“It is possible that a big group packed the drugs and someone was orderd to retrieve them. It could also be that somebody discovered the drugs at sea and abandoned them out of fear,” he added.
Earlier, Peñones said that PRO-3 personnel found 118 packs of suspected shabu, each pack weighing a kilo, concealed in six sacks of chicken feed along the shoreline of Barangay Sisiman.
According to a police report, the PRO-3 acted on a tip from a fisherman that led them to a local lighthouse where the discovery was made.
The drugs were placed in a Chinese tea packaging, similar to the P10-billion shabu found by the Navy onboard an abandoned fishing boat off Masinloc on June 20. The Masinloc discovery was deemed one of the largest drug hauls of the Navy.
Meanwhile, Peñones said the suspected drugs were turned over to the Bataan Forensic Unit for laboratory examination and proper disposition.
Peñones lauded the cooperation between the residents and the police which resulted in the discovery.
