A 25-year-old delivery rider and alleged member of a notorious gang was arrested for delivering P1,224,000 worth of shabu using a famous service delivery app during a buy-bust operation in Sta. Cruz, Manila, authorities said on Thursday, Aug. 14.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as “Jaron,” who was tagged as a high-value individual (HVI). He was arrested by the MPD District Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) in Barangay 343 on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Confiscated from him were four packages of shabu with an estimated weight of 180 grams.
Authorities discovered that the suspect had previously been jailed for possession of illegal drugs. He later returned to illegal drugs distribution in Sta. Cruz, Sampaloc, and other districts of the city.
Police are now investigating whether the suspect was only using his delivery job as a front to expand his drug distribution. They are also tracking his possible accomplices.
The suspect is currently detained at the MPD Headquarters and is facing charges for violations of Republic Act 9165, Sections 5 and 11.
Meanwhile, the MPD urged the public, especially delivery riders, to earn an honest living and stay away from illegal activities.
