AboitizPower unit takes over Pagbilao plant as TeaM Energy's contract ends
Independent power producer (IPP) TeaM Energy Corp. has transferred its 735-megawatt (MW) Pagbilao coal-fired power plant to the government, following the expiration of its Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) contract.
In a statement, TeaM Energy said Friday, Aug. 15, that the turnover to the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) and the National Power Corporation (NPC) was a result of its 1991 agreement.
The facility has been subsequently turned over to a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp., Therma Luzon, Inc. (TLI).
The Pagbilao plant, located in Quezon province, consists of two generating units, each with a 367.5 MW capacity.
Jun Sano, chairman and officer-in-charge of TeaM Energy, noted that the company worked closely with PSALM, NPC, and TLI to ensure a seamless transition.
“The plant has been turned over in excellent condition, ready to continue generating the much-needed electricity for the Luzon grid,” he said.
Under a previous agreement with PSALM, TLI served as the Independent Power Producer Administrator (IPPA) for the Pagbilao plant. With the transfer from TeaM Energy to PSALM complete, the IPPA agreement has ended, paving the way for TLI to take full ownership.
Sano noted the plant’s long-standing contribution to the country.
“For the past 29 years, the Pagbilao Power Station has contributed to the progress of the Philippines, consistently delivering reliable and cost-effective energy... fueling the nation’s growth and development,” he added.
TeaM Energy will maintain its 50 percent ownership in the 420 MW Pagbilao Unit 3 power project, which is located near the original facility. Its retail electricity supply (RES) unit, TeaM Philippines Energy Corp. (TPEC), will also continue to operate and service its clients.
