Man caught stealing gas from other vehicles for stolen motorcycle in Rizal
A 29-year-old man was arrested after he was caught trying to steal gasoline from other motorcycles to refuel the motorcycle he had just stolen in San Mateo, Rizal, on Wednesday night, Aug. 13.
The San Mateo Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the suspect, “Virgilio,” was arrested by village watchmen along Barangay Banaba after concerned citizens reported him for trying to siphon gasoline from other parked motorcycles in the area.
The watchmen later discovered that the motorcycle he was attempting to refuel had been stolen from a delivery rider.
Based on the investigation, the victim had just returned home to Barangay Ampid 1 after buying a gallon of drinking water. While unloading it, he forgot to remove the key from his motorcycle, which the suspect saw and quickly took.
While fleeing, authorities said the suspect’s stolen motorcycle ran out of gasoline. He then tried to siphon fuel from other parked motorcycles, but residents spotted him and alerted patrolling village watchmen.
The suspect failed to show a driver’s license, identification cards, or any proof of ownership of the motorcycle. Authorities also found IDs of the real owner in the compartment.
After the owner presented the official receipt, certificate of registration, and notarized deed of sale, the suspect was arrested and detained at the San Mateo MPS.
