Over 900 students in Isabela received P3.95 million in wages through a short-term work program during school breaks, giving financially challenged youth practical job experience from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE said the amount was released under its Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) from July 17 to 29, providing 911 student beneficiaries with stipends ranging from P4,000 to P4,300.
The payments reflected the agency’s 40% share of the total salary and were adjusted according to municipality classification.
Most participants completed 20-day work assignments performing clerical and enumerator duties in their local government units.
Beneficiaries came from northern municipalities such as Ramon, San Mateo, Mallig, Quezon, and Roxas; central towns including San Guillermo, San Agustin, Jones, and Echague; and southern areas like Reina Mercedes, Benito Soliven, San Isidro, Cabagan, San Manuel, Divilacan, and Cauayan City.
The program aligns with President Marcos’ directive in his fourth State of the Nation Address to expand youth access to internships, scholarships, and employment opportunities.
DOLE’s SPES continues to support financially challenged students by providing short-term employment during semester breaks while equipping them with practical work experience.
