5.4 kilos of floating cocaine retrieved in Eastern Samar
TACLOBAN CITY – A fisherman recovered 5.4 kilograms of suspected floating cocaine in the sea of Hernani, Eastern Samar, on Thursday, Aug. 14.
The 52-year-old fisherman discovered the contraband while fishing before noon.
He turned over the item to the Hernani Municipal Police Station.
Six blocks wrapped in black plastic were sent for chemical analysis to the Crime Laboratory.
Authorities expect to receive results and value disclosed on Friday, Aug. 15.
Police Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy, Police Regional Office-8 director, said the discovery of the illegal drug is a clear example of how police-community coordination can effectively prevent banned substances from reaching local communities.
“Through timely reporting and cooperation between residents and our police personnel, we can intercept dangerous substances before they pose a threat to our people,” he said.
PRO-8 encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious items or activities to authorities.
