Sandro Marcos sees 'nothing wrong' with independent probe on House regarding flood control projects

Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos says he finds "nothing wrong" with proposals to subject the House of Representatives to a third party investigation as far as the flood control project controversy is concerned.
"I don't see anything wrong with that," the presidential son said in a chance interview with House reporters on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
"Again, this is all about transparency and accountability. That's why we have an open budget.
That's why we're doing what we're doing. So, whatever helps towards transparency, whatever helps towards accountability, everyone and anyone should be on board for," he said.
In the same interview, Rep. Marcos said that he agreed with observations that the House had no credibility to conduct a probe on its members in connection with the questionable flood control projects.
"I actually agree. I agree. Why would a body investigate itself?" the Ilocano said.
In a recent press conference, President Marcos bared that over 6,000 projects worth more than P350 billion did not specify the exact type of flood control that was being built. There were also numerous projects at different locations that had the exact same contract cost and contractor.
Just days earlier, it was reported that 67 congressmen-contractors had links to flood control projects.
"I think it's the prerogative of the executive to identify. I think the House should assist [the executive]," Rep. Marcos said.
Asked if he would advise his solon-colleagues to own up to their involvement in such projects, the majority leader answered in the negative.
"I'm not gonna tell the members what the members shouldn't do. Alam mo naman (As you know), we're all grown men and women here," he said.
At any rate, Rep. Marcos said it's best to wait for the executive branch to release more details about the flood control projects.
"I think we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. The President already released certain names and figures in his presscon the other day.
"I think what would be happening in the next few weeks--although the House, I believe, should assist in being able to identify where the anomalies are, I think it would be primarily the executive to be able to identify where these anomalies lie given the fact that again, the accused--so to speak--are within the legislature," he explained.
