Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated around P9.1 million worth of counterfeit products of popular footwear brands in a raid in Pasay City.
CIDG director Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano said the operation stemmed from confirmed intelligence reports about a warehouse of fake Vans, Crocs and Puma products in Barangay 77 in Pasay City owned by a 37-year old Chinese.
That Chinese, according to Abrahano, was arrested during the operation carried out by operatives of the CIDG’s Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit (AFCCU) through a search warrant.
Seized during the Aug. 7 operation were 2,764 pairs of Vans shoes, 285 pairs of Crocs slippers/sandals, and nine pairs of Puma shoes.
“This operation is part of our mandate to protect the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists and other gifted citizens to their intellectual property and creations,” said Abrahano.
“The illegal use of these registered trademarks or a confusingly similar mark in commerce may cause deception or confusion among consumers,” he added.
The suspect now faces criminal charges relating to Republic Act of 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
