The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Wednesday, August 13, that it has expanded its leptospirosis fast lanes to 49 hospitals nationwide.
The DOH said that the initiative aligns with President Marcos’ directive to enhance rapid and efficient medical responses to leptospirosis and other waterborne diseases.
“Mula 27, naging 49 na ang mga leptospirosis fast lanes sa buong bansa (From 27, the number of leptospirosis fast lanes across the country has increased to 49),” the DOH announced.
“Alinsunod ito sa direktiba ng Pangulong Marcos na palawakin ang mabilis at epektibong pagresponde sa leptospirosis at iba pang sakit na dinudulog sa mga DOH hospitals (This is in line with President Marcos’ directive to expand swift and effective responses to leptospirosis and other illnesses brought to DOH hospitals),” it added.
Where to go
The DOH said these dedicated lanes are designed to ensure the immediate assessment of patients’ risk levels and provide timely medical intervention, especially during the rainy season when leptospirosis cases often surge.

The DOH noted that the expansion aims to reduce waiting times, speed up diagnosis, and prevent complications from leptospirosis—a potentially fatal bacterial infection often contracted through contact with water contaminated by animal urine, particularly during floods.
Meanwhile, the DOH reiterated its call for the public to seek immediate medical consultation if they have been exposed to floodwaters or mud, especially if they experience symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, headache, or jaundice.
Early treatment is crucial to avoiding severe complications, DOH stressed.
