Before he was arrested, Olaer was accused of stealing the service firearm of a security guard of a convenience store in Barangay Sawang, Guindulman.
After taking his firearm, Olaer fled on a motorcycle.
Store management called the police for help. When police arrived in the store, they received a report of a shooting incident in Barangay Guinacot, also in Guindulman.
Police rushed to the area where they cornered Olaer about to flee.
A resident told the police that an armed Olaer forcibly entered their gate. When the policeman got past the gate, he allegedly shot a dog and strafed the house.
A 9mm caliber pistol and KG-9 rifle were recovered from the policeman during the arrest.
Police said Olaer may have suspected that the house was owned by Kenny Foster, the American who figured in altercation with the rowdy police officer outside a market last Monday.
Foster accused the policeman of shoving and punching him in the body during the altercation.
Because of the altercation, the policeman was disarmed while administrative and criminal charges against him are being readied.
Police Col. Arnel Banzon, chief of Bohol Police Provincial Office, said a string of charges await Olaer.
Charges for robbery, frustrated murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, violation of domicile may be filed against Olaer.
Olaer is facing a separate charge for grave threats that was filed by the American.
The two incidents were Olaer’s latest brush with the law.
In 2020, he was accused of indiscriminate firing after getting drunk. That incident resulted in Olaer’s suspension and demotion from police master sergeant to corporal.
