Canteen owner, wife crushed to death by wayward bus

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A businessman and his wife were killed when a provincial bus crashed into their canteen before dawn on Wednesday, Aug. 13, on the Santa Rosa-Tarlac Road in Barangay Santo Rosario, Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija.

Police identified the victims as canteen owner Eddie and wife Rochelle, both 56.
Investigation said Edgardo, driver of a Solid North bus with license plates NBC-5220, lost control of the bus bound for Santa Rosa.
It swerved left and collided with a parked blue Nissan Vanette with license plates XHR-798.
The bus continued moving forward and crashed into the canteen.
The victims, who were sleeping when the accident happened, were taken to a hospital in Nueva Ecija where they were declared dead.
The bus driver sustained injuries and was also taken to a hospital in the province. Police said Edgardo is in critical condition due to serious head injury.
Police said the bus and the canteen incurred still undetermined amount of damage.
