The rapid response of personnel from the Baliwag City Police Station resulted in the immediate arrest of a suspect involved in an attempted killing and hostage-taking at the Baliwag Public Market, Brgy. Poblacion, Baliwag City, Bulacan, on Wednesday, August 13.
While one police officer was pleading with the hostage-taker to surrender, another quietly moved in from behind and, at the right moment, grabbed the suspect’s knife and placed him under arrest, according to the Bulacan Police Provincial Office (PPO).

Col. Angel Garcillano, acting Bulacan police director, lauded the swift action of the Baliwag City police personnel. Their negotiation skills and tactical intervention in the hostage situation successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect without bloodshed or loss of life, leaving the hostage—a vendor—unharmed.
“Ang tapang, maagap na pag-iisip, at pagkakaisa na ipinamalas ng ating mga tauhan sa Baliwag CPS ay nagligtas sa posibleng trahedya. Ang kanilang dedikasyon sa tungkulin at pagtatalaga ng sarili upang protektahan ang buhay ay sumasalamin sa pinakamahuhusay na pagpapahalaga ng Philippine National Police (The courage, quick thinking, and unity shown by our personnel at the Baliwag CPS prevented a possible tragedy. Their dedication to duty and commitment to protecting lives reflect the highest values of the Philippine National Police)," Garcillano said.
He expressed hope that this incident would serve as a clear message that in Bulacan, the police will always respond swiftly and remain committed to maintaining the community's safety.
Garcillano added that the prompt action of the Baliwag City police proves the readiness and dedication of the entire police force in the province of Bulacan to uphold peace and order in line with the Five-Minute Response Time program initiated by PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
