A man who was flagged down by members of the Las Piñas City Police Pilar Substation during the police's routine checkpoint was arrested in possession of a firearm last August 11.
Col. Sandro Tafalla, Las Piñas City Police chief, identified the suspect as Merch, 31. He was arrested at around 9:00 a.m. along Alabang-Zapote Road, Barangay Almanza Uno.

Tafalla said members of the Las Piñas City Police Pilar Substation flagged down Merch during the conduct of a routine checkpoint on board a motorcycle.
He said that during the inspection, the police saw a handle of a firearm inside Merch's black sling bag.
The city police chief found in the possession of Merch a .45 caliber pistol, two magazines, and twenty-one rounds of live ammunition.
Tafalla said the suspect failed to show the police at the checkpoint proper documents of ownership of the motorcycle and the .45 caliber pistol.
He said the police issued a violation receipt for an unregistered motorcycle and failure to carry its certificate of registration.
The suspect was brought to the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section (SIDMS) for detention. A case of violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act was filed against him.
