- Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines plans to have 30 Tamaraw race cars on the grid in 2026, and that it will have its own separate class.
Toyota Motor Philippines hopes to add even more excitement to next year’s Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup season with the addition of the Tamaraw one-make race.
This announcement was made by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) President, Masando Hashimoto, and Assistant vice president, Andy Ty at a press conference during the final round of the 2025 TGR Philippine Cup.
Toyota held an exhibition race featuring five Tamaraw one-make race cars.
Serving as a teaser of the potential excitement this new race could bring, an exhibition sprint race was held with five one-make race spec Toyota Tamaraws driven by past Vios Cup champions: Allan Uy (2016), Daniel Miranda (2017), Estefano Rivera (2021), John Dizon (2023), and Tyson Sy (Former Vios OMR Test Driver).
Five lightly-modified Toyota Tamaraws were let loose at Clark International Speedway last August 9, 2025, and were driven by past Vios Cup champions: Allan Uy (2016), Daniel Miranda (2017), Estefano Rivera (2021), John Dizon (2023), and Tyson Sy (Former Vios OMR Test Driver).
Like the Vios one-make race cars of the Philippine Cup, the Tamaraw race cars will feature several modifications to make them more suitable for racing. These include safety upgrades like a racing seat, a full roll cage, and a race-spec steering wheel. As for performance, they will be fitted with modified suspension, a limited-slip differential (LSD), and the same brand of tires used by the Vios OMR cars. The 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine will remain stock, but will be fitted with an HKS exhaust system. Onlookers may have noticed that, even during the race under heavy acceleration, the Tamaraw OMR cars produced no black smoke.
TMP is currently working its development partner, Autoplus, to further improve the Tamaraw’s capabilities and develop a race-spec Tamaraw OMR car that interested teams can simply buy that is already ready to race.
In addition, the five Tamaraws also showcased unique livery designs that can be implemented on the vehicles.

Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines plans to have 30 Tamaraw race cars on the grid, and that it will have its own separate class. This will certainly make the 2026 TGR Philippine Cup race weekend even more exciting.
The Toyota Tamaraw drag racing special
This may not be the only event at the TGR Philippine Cup featuring the Tamaraw. TMP was open to the possibility of organizing other Tamaraw related events like, drag racing, drifting, or possibly even rallying.
Besides the Tamaraw OMR, TMP and Autoplus have also prepared a unique Tamaraw drag racing truck, with its own unique set up.
Details on how to enter next year’s Tamaraw OMR have yet to be announced, but TMP hopes to provide this information very soon.
