2 students in critical condition after being hit by falling concrete debris in QC
Two students remain in critical condition after being hit by falling concrete debris from a condominium building in Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon, August 12.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) stated that the incident occurred at around 4:39 p.m. at the corner of Roces and Timog Avenue, where three students were walking home from school.
Pieces of concrete reportedly fell from the building’s exterior, striking two of the children on the head and injuring a third on the arm.
The victims were immediately rushed to the Capitol Medical Center. Doctors confirmed that two of them sustained severe head injuries and remain under close medical observation, while the third victim is recovering from arm injuries.
The mother of one of the critically injured students, Carla Baldonado, appealed for help in finding a specialist who could treat her child.
She said her child was still breathing and conscious after the incident.
The Quezon City government expressed concern for the victims and their families, and assured them of support through the Social Services and Development Department.
It also directed concerned offices to study possible legal actions against those responsible and launched an investigation to determine their liability.
Authorities have yet to identify the building owner or disclose whether structural safety checks had been conducted before the incident.
