The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver of the mixer truck in a viral video of the vehicle ramming parked cars before plunging into a ravine in Bataan.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the driver would be given the opportunity to explain his side, especially as to why he jumped out of the truck as seen in the viral video.
Mendoza said the registered truck owner was also summoned to explain on matters pertaining to the road worthiness of the vehicle.
“We already issued a show cause order against both the driver and the owner of the truck to ask them to explain why they should not be sanctioned, especially on the aspect of always ensuring the road worthiness of the motor vehicle,” said Mendoza.
The incident happened on August 7 in Barangay Bangal in Dinalupihan town and Mendoza said they want to know why it happened, especially that some parked vehicles and a carenderia were damaged.
The driver is facing charges of reckless driving and for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
For Mendoza, the recent incident of road crash involving a truck highlighted the decision to conduct regular surprise roadworthiness inspections of trucks.
“The incident highlighted the importance of our regular surprise and random inspection on trucks, due to cases of road crashes involving this type of vehicle,” said Mendoza.
“We cannot cover all of them and this investigation should serve as a warning of consequences of the owners failing to ensure the road worthiness of their motor vehicles,” he added.
