Iloilo City gov't to ban alcohol, videoke during Bar exams
ILOILO CITY – The local government here is preparing to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2025 Philippine Bar exams set on Sept. 7, 10, and 14 at the Central Philippine University (CPU), one of the 14 local testing centers in the country.
Mayor Raisa Treñas on Tuesday released three executive orders (EOs) creating a coordinating committee for the Iloilo site, regulating ambient noise, and prohibiting the sale and public consumption of liquor within the vicinity of CPU.
The Office of the Bar chairperson, Associate Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier, requests the following: Personnel augmentation, road closures, establishments of police and traffic situations, crowd control management, health protocols, public information, and coordination with external agencies, according to the orders.
EO No. 57 prohibits the sale and consumption of any form of liquor or alcoholic beverages within a 500-meter radius of CPU from midnight of Sept. 6, 9, and 13 until 11:59 p.m. of Sept. 7, 10, and 14.
EO No. 58, meanwhile, “strongly enjoined” establishments within a 500-meter radius of the university to minimize unnecessary noise and for contractors performing engineering works and/or preventive maintenance works to postpone related activities within the same radius for a similar period.
The use of videoke machines, wireless microphones with similar functions, and other similar equipment or gadgets that would disrupt and disturb the conduct of the Bar exams is also prohibited on the same dates and times.
Further, EO No. 59 created the coordinating committee chaired by Treñas and co-chaired by City Administrator Melchor Tan with various city and national government offices as members for a smooth coordination in terms of security, traffic, health and disaster risk management, and public information and social media.
