Deputy Speaker Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronaldo "Ronnie" Puno has advised Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero not to get rattled by the online attacks against him.
"Huwag na siyang masyadong kabahan siguro sa mga online-online. Ang tingnan natin ‘yung talagang ano totoo (Maybe he shouldn’t be too nervous about the online stuff. Let’s focus on what’s really true)," Puno said in a press conference Tuesday, Aug. 12.
This, as Escudero claimed there was a demolition job against him so he may be unseated ahead of February 2026.
The House of Representatives is expected to file a new impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte by that time, or after the one-year bar rule set by the Supreme Court (SC).
Escudero is being linked to a contractor in the P545-billion flood control project controversy.
“Hindi ko alam kung sino ‘yung tinututok niya no or sino tinuturo niya. At saka hindi ko alam anong demolition job ang sinasabi dahil kung ‘yung binabanggit niya ‘yung mga lumalabas sa Facebook na kontratistang nagko-contribute daw, major contributor sa kanyang kampanya,” Puno said in the same presser, referring to the Senate chief.
(I don’t know who he’s pointing at or referring to. And I don’t know what demolition job he’s talking about, because if he’s referring to those posts on Facebook about contractors allegedly contributing, being major contributors to his campaign.)
Puno took exception to statements that the House was behind the smear job.
“Masama ‘yung pagka-blanket na ‘sinisiraan sa Kongreso’ eh lahat kami tinatamaan. Kaibigan ko si Senator Chiz eh. Pati pa ako nadamay na naman sa akusasyon. Huwag nating lalahatin. Siguro banggitin nya na kung sino ‘yun para at least magkasagutan na sila,” he said.
(It’s bad to make a blanket statement that ‘Congress is doing the job’ because all of us are being hit. Senator Chiz is my friend. Now I’m being dragged into the accusation again. Let’s not generalize. Maybe he should just name who it is so at least they can confront each other.)
“So ‘yung demolition job siguro, banggitin nya specifically para magkaayos ayos na sila,” Puno further said.
(So regarding the demolition job, maybe he should mention it specifically so they can settle things properly.)
