The Benitez father-and-son duo in the House of Representatives is on the same page with President Marcos on the quest for transparency when it comes to the controversial flood control projects.
Bacolod City lone district Rep. Albee Benitez and Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Javi Benitez took to their respective Facebook accounts on Monday, Aug. 11 to express their support for Marcos' headline-grabbing initiative.
"Concrete solutions to our flooding problem begin by identifying those who may have failed to execute projects intended to protect communities and reduce the damage caused by heavy rains and typhoons," Albee wrote in a post.
"The President, in following through on his commitment to publicize the names of the contractors involved in flood control projects, has taken the first real step to hold accountable those who benefit from public funds without delivering results," he said.
"The next step must be to ensure that every peso in our flood mitigation budget is spent on projects that actually protect lives and property—not fill the pockets of the corrupt," added the elder Benitez.
Javi chimed in on the issue with his own post: "I agree with the President. We need full transparency on where our flood control funds go, and we need to check if these projects are real or just “ghost” projects, and if they went through proper public bidding."
"These are billions of pesos meant to protect our homes, our farms, and our families," he noted.
The "House Hotshots" member vowed to keep a close eye on every project in his district. "If you see anything wrong, delays, poor work, or projects that don’t make sense... let’s talk," he said.
"Flood control should be more than concrete and canals. It should be peace of mind when rains come. ," Javi said.
