Torre honors cop slain in Dinagat police operation

CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III awarded on Sunday, Aug. 10, the PNP Heroism Medal or Medalya ng Kadakilaan to Police Patrolman Ferry S. Jaso of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group who was killed during an operation in San Jose town, Dinagat Islands province on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Torre, in recognition of his bravery and exceptional courage, visited Jaso and presented a posthumous award for his selfless sacrifice in the performance of duty.

The PNP chief visited the wake of Jaso in Mainit, Surigao del Norte, to condole with his grieving family.
Torre recognized Jaso’s selfless sacrifice in the performance of duty. “We salute and recognized his service to our country,” he said.
He condoled with the family of Jaso and presented a special financial assistance under Republic Act 6963 and a partial payment for death claim.
Torre was welcomed upon arrival in Surigao City by PRO 13-Director Police Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado IV.
The PNP chief was accompanied by his wife Patricia, Police Brig. Gen. Jean S. Fajardo, director for comptrollership, and CIDG Director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano.
Meanwhile, in his “Talk to Men” with the PRO-13 on Sunday, Torre emphasized the importance of the five-minute response time in swiftly addressing incidents and emergencies, particularly those in Surigao City.
Torre turned over a brand-new Toyota Vios patrol vehicles to the Surigao City Police Station, a project made possible with the support of the city’s local government unit.
“We thank the chief PNP for taking the time to visit us and for honoring the gallantry of Jaso, who gave his life in the performance of duty,” Magistrado said.
