Antipolo City 2nd district Rep. Romeo Acop--the no-nonsense solon who figured prominently in past House quad-committee (quad-comm) hearings--was given a new but just as important task in the 20th Congress.
During plenary session Monday, Aug. 11, Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos designated Acop to the powerful Committee on Appointments (CA).
Acop, a retired police brigadier general, served as overall vice chairman of the vaunted quad-comm during the previous 19th Congress. At that time, he held the chairmanship of the Committee on Transportation.
As a member of the bicameral CA, Acop will assess the competence, integrity, and fitness of key presidential appointees, with the authority to either confirm or reject them.
House CA slate nearly complete
Also named as CA members Monday were Agusan del Sur 2nd district Rep. Eddiebong Plaza, Cavite 5th district Rep. Roy Loyola, and Camarines Sur 4th district Rep. Arnie Fuentebella.
With this, the House contingent to the CA now has 11 member. The House leadership needs to elect one more congressman to complete its CA slate.
The CA comprises 12 members each from the House of Representatives and the Senate, with the Senate President serving as the 25th member and ex-officio presiding officer.
