ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio has taken Vice President Sara Duterte to task for her constant travels, which he described as "paglamyerda".
In a statement Monday, Aug. 11, Tinio highlighted issues against Duterte in connection with her performance and use of public funds. He said these would persist, regardless of the outcome of impeachment discussions.
"Kabilang sa mga isyu ay 'yung habitual absence ni Vice President from her official duties (Among these issues is the Vice President's habitual absence from her official duties)," Tinio said.
According to the Makabayan congressman, there are "concerns about the Vice President's attendance to her constitutional responsibilities", and the supposed lack of consequences on her part.
"Kapag ordinaryomg kawani lalo na kapag titser na palaging wala ay may bawas sa sahod o sinisita ng kanilang mga superiors habang ang Bise Presidente naman ay walang tigil sa paglamyerda," said Tinio.
(When it's an ordinary employee, especially a teacher who is often absent, their salary gets deducted or they get reprimanded by their superiors, while the Vice President, on the other hand, is constantly wandering about.)
Since March, the Vice President has been going back and forth to the The Hague, in the Netherlands to visit her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte. The elder Duterte is being held and tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for a charge of crimes against humanity.
At the height of the public discourse on the impeachment case, the Vice President seemed to frequent engagements and events abroad involving her supporters from the local Filipino community there.
Late last month, the Supreme Court (SC) declared as unconstitutional the House-initiated impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte. The Senate, which was supposed to subject the lady official to an impeachment, responded to the SC by archiving the complaint--much to the chagrin of House members.
"This issue will continue to hound the Vice President habang hindi nasasarahan ito (while there is no closure to this)," stated Tinio, a deputy minority leader.
"Hindi mamamatay 'yan (impeachment). This issue will not die," he added.
