More key positions in the lower chamber--including a 10th deputy speaker--has been filled by the leadership of the House of Representatives.
During plenary session Monday, Aug. 11, Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos elected Misamis Oriental 2nd district Rep. Yevgeny Vicente Emano as the newest deputy speaker of the current 20th Congress.
Emano is a Nacionalista Party (NP) stalwart. Excluding Senior Deputy Speaker Quezon 2nd district Rep. David "Jay-Jay" Suarez, Emano is the 10th deputy speaker.
Earlier designated as such were Reps. Janette Garin (Iloilo, 1st district), Yasser Alonto Balindong (Lanao del Sur, 2nd district), Kristine Singson-Meehan (Ilocos Sur, 2nd district), Ronaldo Puno (Antipolo City, 1st district), Faustino Dy III (Isabela, 6th district), Ferjenel Biron (Iloilo, 4th district), Raymond Democrito Mendoza (TUCP Party-list), Paolo Ortega V (La Union, 1st district) and Jay Khonghun (Zambales, 1st district).
The House also elected as members of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) Parañaque City 2nd district Rep. Brian Yamsuan, Ifugao lone district Rep. Solomon Chungalao, and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.
Co served as Committee on Appropriations chairman during the previous Congress.
