Cosco Capital's profits rise on stronger consumer demand
Tycoon Lucio L. Co’s retail holding company Cosco Capital Inc. reported a 9.3-percent growth in consolidated net income to ₱7.6 billion for the first half of 2025 from the ₱6.97 billion earned in the same period last year as consumer spending continues to improve.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the firm said strong operating performance from major business segments lifted consolidated revenues by 12.3 percent to ₱119.5 billion in the first half of the year from ₱106.4 billion in the same period of 2024.
“The group continued to benefit from the economic recovery amid the prevailing macroeconomic challenges by way of sustained and stronger revenue growth across all its business segments, which indicates the recovering consumer demand,” Cosco said.
In the first half of 2025, the group's grocery retailing businesses, Puregold Price Club Inc. and S&R Membership Shopping Club, contributed 70 percent of total net income, followed by the liquor distribution with 22 percent, commercial real estate segment with seven percent, and energy and minerals and specialty retail with two percent.
The grocery retail segment grew consolidated net income by 7.1 percent to ₱5.3 billion from ₱4.95 billion, driven by strong topline growth and complemented by stable gross margins.
The liquor distribution business through The Keepers Holdings Inc. saw its net income increase 13.7 percent to ₱1.6 billion in the first half of 2025, resulting from the strong sales performance of its imported brandy segment.
The commercial real estate segment posted a one-percent increase in rental revenues amounting to ₱618 million in the first half of 2025, while its net income grew by 15 percent to ₱559 million in first half of 2025 versus ₱486 million in the same period of 2024.
The energy and minerals segment posted revenues of ₱309 million in the first half of 2025, while it generated net income of ₱117 million for the same period.
For the specialty retailing business segment, Office Warehouse Inc.’s revenues increased by 4.5 percent to ₱1.04 billion in the first half of 2025 versus ₱994 million a year ago. Net income increased by 14 percent to ₱44.5 million in the first half of 2025 versus ₱39 million in the same period last year.
