Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said on Sunday, August 10 that he is confident that the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte can be revived and pulled out from the Senate’s archives should the Supreme Court reverses its ruling.
Lacson, a member of the Senate minority bloc, said he is ready to bring this up when this happens and take his colleagues words to heart that they will respect the SC’s decision.
“If the SC decision is reversed, I and Senate Minority Leader Vicente Sotto III will move to pull out the case from the archives and discuss it,” Lacson said in an interview on Radio DZBB.
“If someone objects and we lose in the voting, I will recall their explanation during the 19-4-1 voting and raise their statements when they said they will respect and follow the SC order,” he said.
“So I'll take a quote from their explanation and tell them, didn't you say to obey? Now that it has been reversed, you don't want to obey? In the end, the majority vote will prevail because that's the essence of democracy,” he stressed.
Should there also be changes in the Senate leadership, or if the sentiment of the senators also change, Lacson is confident that the Articles of Impeachment can be removed from the archives and be discussed by the impeachment court.
“Eh naka-archive yan. Patay yan pero pwede pa siyang ma-Lazarus at any time. Naka-archive eh (It’s archived. It’s dead but it can be revived like Lazarus at any time. Because it’s just archived),” he said.
“At any time, if for example the Senate leadership changes or the wind changes or the majority changes its mind and thinks of pulling it out, it can be pulled out anytime unless the SC ruling goes one step further and says it is mandatory that the Senate reconvene and hold a trial,” he further said.
