Mayor Biazon vows to hold bullying perpetrator accountable in Muntinlupa high school

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon assured that a student found bullying a classmate will face proper accountability, following a reported incident where a 15-year-old victim was hospitalized.
Last Thursday, Aug. 7, Mayor Biazon summoned officials from the Schools Division Office (SDO), the school principal, guidance counselors, the class adviser, and the parents of both the bullying perpetrator and the victim.
According to reports, a video of bullying showed a female student pulling the hair of another female student who was on the floor inside their classroom. The 15-year-old victim was hospitalized following the incident.
The victim was not able to attend the meeting with Biazon, as she was still in the hospital for observation.
"Maliwanag na sinabi kong dapat managot ang gumawa ng karahasan sa kapwa estudyante. Nandun ang magulang ng biktima na nagpahayag ng pagkabahala sa kalagayan ng anak niya. Nakapag salita din ang magulang ng batang sinasabing nambully. Naghayag din siya ng kanilang panig at paghingi ng paumanhin. Nasabi din nya na ang kanyang anak ay naging biktima din ng bullying sa nakaraan (I clearly said that the perpetrator of violence against fellow students should be held accountable. The victim's parent was there to express concern for the child's situation. The parents of the child who allegedly bullied also spoke. They also expressed their side and apologized. They added that their child had been a victim of bullying in the past as well)," Biazon said.

The mayor said the perpetrator expressed remorse but said the student should be held accountable.
"Tulad ng nasabi ko sa isang post tungkol sa bullying, ito ay isang maselan na issue. Para masolusyonan ito, higit pa sa pagpaparusa sa gumawa nito. Oo, kailangan siyang managot at yun ang sinabi ko sa kanya at sa nanay niya. Sinabi ko din sa nanay ng biktima na may laya sila na gumawa ng legal action, kung gusto nila (As I said in a post about bullying, this is a sensitive issue. To solve it, it is more than punishing the perpetrator. Yes, the student needs to be held accountable, and that is what I told the student and the mother. I also told the victim's mother that they have the freedom to take legal action if they want to)," he said.
The mayor ordered the SDO and school officials to continue with the investigation and implement sanctions if needed. They are also mandated to implement anti-bullying policies and programs.
"Batid at tanggap ko na responsibilidad ko kasama ang mga paaralan na supilin ang bullying. Kaya naman hands on ako dito sa issue bago pa man lumabas sa media. Yun nga lang, ang solusyon ay kailangan ng mas holistic approach, hindi lang natatapos sa agarang parusa o 'for awareness' campaign. Strategic dapat ang pamamaraan, ibig sabihin considered lahat ng possible consequences at effect ng bawat galaw (I know and accept that it is my responsibility, along with schools, to curb bullying. That is why I am hands-on with this issue before it even appears in the media. However, the solution requires a more holistic approach, not just ending with immediate punishment or an 'awareness' campaign. The approach must be strategic, meaning that all possible consequences and effects of each action are considered)," Bianzon emphasized.
