DPWH Southern Mindoro reports partial completion of 153 projects
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office recently reported that 153 infrastructure projects worth P2 billion have been partially completed as of July 31.

District Engineer Annielyn E. Padullo, in a report to Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan of the DPWH Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), said these will protect lives and properties and enhance the welfare of the residents in the second district of Oriental Mindoro.
Padullo said that 76.26 percent of 2,270.790-square meters under the Preventive Maintenance for Secondary Roads Program have been accomplished while 32.36 percent of the 624-lineal meters of drainage on national roads were rehabilitated and 46.33 percent of 13.595-kilometers of secondary roads have been widened.
Sixty percent of the nine bridges in the towns of Pinamalayan, Gloria, and Bansud have been retrofitted to serve as strong protection against strong river currents during tropical cyclones, Padullo said.
The DPWH district engineer said that 85.52 percent of 1,419-lineal meters of flood mitigation structures and drainage systems have been constructed.
More than a kilometer or 1,358 lineal meters of flood mitigation facilities on the Bongabong River Control Structure in Barangay San Jose, Bongabong, which is considered as a major river basin, have been rehabilitated, she added.
“Under the Convergence Program, 67.37 percent of the 3.38-kilometers of access roads leading to declared tourism destinations or Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP) sites have been improved. Under the Special Support Program, 84.97 percent of the 10 units of the Special Road Program (Motor Vehicle User’s Charge) have been accomplished, which includes works on road preventive maintenance, upgrading of damaged paved roads, and installation of road safety facilities such as roadway lighting,” Padullo said.
“The road at Carmundo-Tawas Road and Labasan Road in Bongabong and Barangay Bacungan, Pinamalayan, under the Sustainable Infrastructure Project Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) Program, are 44.17 percent complete as well as the other public facilities in Roxas and Bulalacao."
Padullo said they always prioritize their mandate to ensure the economic development of communities in southern Mindoro and provide quality infrastructure facilities and services that meet the people's needs.
