Body of aeronautics student found in Negros Occidental sugarcane field

BACOLOD CITY – The body of a 19-year-old aeronautics student from Barangay Alangilan here was found on Sunday morning, Aug. 10, in a sugarcane field in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Police Capt. Honey Labaro, Murcia police chief, said the victim was discovered around 5:30 a.m. by a passerby, with head and leg injuries, as well as a broken arm, from a suspected motorcycle accident.
The victim was last seen in a restobar in Murcia with his cousin and a friend. He reportedly left the establishment to pick someone using his cousin’s motorcycle.
Labaro said that investigation suggested the victim sustained fatal injuries from an accident after the motorcycle was found inside the sugarcane field.
The victim’s identity was confirmed by his uncle.
Authorities have yet to determine if the victim was drunk at the time of the incident
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old job order employee was arrested for allegedly shooting and injuring a security guard during a late-night altercation in Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Police Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, Sagay police chief, said the 45-year-old victim, Aguilar, was reportedly drinking with his brother-in-law and a friend in his home around 11:30 p.m., with the suspect, identified as Ricky, also drinking with two companions nearby.
Aguilar’s brother-in-law allegedly provoked Ricky and challenged him to a fistfight.
Ricky, reportedly armed with a .45 caliber pistol, fired at Aguilar’s residence.
The victim was wounded in the left leg and is now recuperating. Aguilar’s companions managed to flee.
The suspect surrendered the unlicensed firearm with a magazine and two spare magazines with 10 bullets.
Investigators are looking into personal grudge as the motive behind the shooting. The suspect faces appropriate cases.
