Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) seized a sniper rifle and three other firearms from two foreigners following a raid in their rented house in Makati City on Friday night, Aug. 9.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said the operation stemmed from intelligence reports that the two Chinese were in possession of a cache of firearms in their house on Antipolo Street in Barangay Valenzuela.
Armed with a search warrant, Aberin said his men swooped down on the area and discovered two handguns and a shotgun aside from the sniper rifle.
“These were accompanied by dedicated hard cases for the pistol, rifle, and shotgun — stark indicators of deliberate and organized possession. Neither suspect could produce the necessary permits to legally own or carry the seized firearms and ammunition,” said Aberin.
The official said the operation is part of the aggressive intelligence-driven anticrime operations, especially against individuals and groups engaged in organized crimes as ordered by PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Torre earlier ordered an intensified campaign against crime groups amid what the PNP described as proliferation of fake news to paint a negative peace and order situation in the country.
Earlier, Torre disputed the warning issued by China to its citizens about crimes targeting Chinese. The PNP Chief said those involved in crimes against Chinese were mostly perpetrated by Chinese nationals too.
Aberin said charges of violation of RA 10591 are being finalized for immediate filing through inquest proceedings at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office while the seized items will be used in the filing of the cases.
“This high-impact operation reaffirms NCRPO’s uncompromising position against threats to public safety, ensuring that Metro Manila remains a place where the law applies equally — to all, without exception,” said Aberin.
