A 20-year-old alleged gang member is now languishing in jail after being swiftly arrested by patrolling officers from Manila Police District Station 1 (MPD PS1) on Malaya Street in Barangay 124, Balut, Tondo.
According to a report submitted to MPD District Director Gen. Arnold E. Abad, the suspect was identified as "Van," 20, a resident of H. Lopez Street, Brgy. 129, Balut, Tondo.
The suspect allegedly broke into a residence by forcibly opening the front door using a screwdriver at around 1 a.m.
Police said he managed to steal several speakers at the ground floor.
As he attempted to proceed to the second floor, the homeowner, whose wife and child were sleeping upstairs, arrived and noticed the damaged door.
Upon entering, he saw the suspect inside, leading to a scuffle and an urgent call for help.
Fortunately, officers conducting regular patrols in the area quickly responded and apprehended the suspect on site.
The stolen items were recovered, and the screwdriver used in the break-in was confiscated.
Police reports further revealed that the suspect has been linked to previous crimes in the area, including a recent armed robbery involving a Grab driver along H. Lopez Blvd.
He was reportedly one of the suspects who escaped when two of his accomplices were arrested.
The suspect is now in the custody of the MPD Raxabago Police Station and faces charges of robbery in an inhabited place.
