Abubakar forfeits bronze match vs Moroccan due to injury

CHENGDU, China — Rudzma Abubakar has forfeited her bronze medal match in women's muay thai -47-kilogram division at the World Games after dislocating her nose during her semifinal bout against China's Xiaohui Lui on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Sichuan Gymnasium here.
Abubakar, who hails from Zamboanga City, was supposed to face Oumaima Belouarrat of Morocco for the bronze medal Sunday, Aug. 10, but would instead take an immediate flight back home to repair her nose with specialists in Manila.
The Filipina striker dropped her semis match against the hometown bet, who unloaded powerful elbows that punished Abubakar's face, with the referee seeing enough to stop the fight in the second round.
Lui, with the entire Chengdu venue rallying behind her, will battle Thailand's Miss Kullanat Aonok in the finals Sunday evening.
Abubakar was also complaining of back spasms since her last fight against Ukrainian Anastasiia Mykhailenko.
