Actor Paolo Contis is seemingly turning a new leaf — one heartfelt Instagram post at a time.
In a surprising but touching gesture, Paolo publicly expressed gratitude to John Cabahug, the current partner of his ex-wife Lian Paz, for helping raise his daughters, Xonia and Xalene.
Yes, you read that right — the ex is reaching out to the new guy, and not with drama, but with thanks.
In a social media post that has since earned both admiration and curiosity, Paolo wrote:
“Happy Birthday, John! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing Lian and my kids nung araw na 'to. Oo, hinintay ko talaga ang birthday mo to publicly express my gratitude to you.”
The post came with photos of Paolo enjoying a bonding moment with his kids — and yes, with John and Lian in the same frame. A rare sight by celebrity standards.
He went on to praise Lian, who he married in 2009 and separated from in 2012, for her strength and kindness through the years.
“Lian, you have always been kind and forgiving. This is why hindi kayo pinabayaan ni Lord. I appreciate all your efforts in talking to John about that day. Thank you for being strong and for how you nurtured the kids to have beautiful hearts.”
Paolo then made a public pledge — a kind of emotional promissory note — to do better as a father.
“John, I cannot thank you enough for this chance. I promise to have a constant communication sa inyong lahat. I will not waste this chance. Thank you for taking care of the kids. Please know that I am always here para sa inyong lahat.”
If this isn’t a man trying to right past wrongs, we don’t know what is.
He ended his message with a hopeful tone, hinting at newfound peace among them.
“To more precious days like this. Happy Birthday, John! Thank you for the friendship.”
For those not in the know, Lian filed for annulment in 2021 but later withdrew the case in March 2024, raising eyebrows and speculations. But if recent developments are any indication, it seems the focus now is on healing — and the children.
