It seems like Manny Pacquiao’s return to boxing isn’t really a one-off thing.
That, after the Hall of Famer hinted at a possible fight in December to follow up his comeback fight against Mario Barrios that resulted in a majority draw last month.
The 46-year-old Filipino boxing great had just returned to the country following a well-deserved vacation in Italy with his wife, Jinkee. Now back to business, Pacquiao said he could once again step into the ring just before the year turns.
“This year. Mga December,” said Pacquiao in an interview clip with veteran reporter Dyan Castillejo and was shared by Viva Promotions on its Facebook page.
There’s no word on the possible date yet but Pacquiao is turning 47 on Dec. 17. As for his opponent, there’s still no definite prospect yet although the camp of the boxing great has named either Gervonta Davis or Rolly Romero as a potential fight.
Chances of a possible Romero-Pacquiao fight, however, hit a snag after a reported negotiation for a potential rematch between the World Boxing Association welterweight champion against Ryan Garcia later this year.
Although he fell short on resetting his record as the oldest welterweight champion, Pacquiao said he was pretty much satisfied with his performance against Barrios, especially proving that he still has the stamina to go the distance against a younger opponent.
He, however, admitted that he was far from his 100 percent for the fight after only spending two-month worth of training camp following a four-year layoff.
“Satisfied ako sa condition ko, but not yet 100%. Yung speed, timing, more punches… kulang pa,” said Pacquiao.
“Twelve rounds against a younger opponent — okay na yun,” he said.
