LPA west of Ilocos Region develops into tropical depression Fabian — PAGASA
PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Aug. 8 said the low-pressure area (LPA) west of Ilocos Norte has intensified into a tropical depression and was given the local name “Fabian.”
At 10 a.m., the center of Fabian was located 185 kilometers west of Batac, Ilocos Norte.
It is moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts up to 55 kph.
No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently in effect as PAGASA said Fabian is not expected to have a direct impact on the country’s weather.
However, moderate sea conditions, waves ranging from one to two meters, are expected over the coastal waters of Northern Luzon.
Mariners operating small vessels are advised to take precautionary measures or avoid going to sea, especially if under-equipped or inexperienced.
PAGASA said Fabian is expected to continue moving northwest and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Friday night and early Saturday morning, Aug. 9.
It added that it is likely to weaken into a remnant low after leaving PAR.
