Laborer suffocates to death in deep well

QUEZON, Quezon – A worker fell and suffocated in a deep well he was cleaning in Sitio Pagatpat, Barangay Del Pilar, here, on Wednesday morning Aug. 7.
Investigation said the 31-year-old victim was climbing out of the seven-meter-deep well using a rope when he suddenly became weak and had difficulty breathing.
The victim’s companion tried to pull him out but failed, prompting him to seek the help of barangay officials.
The victim was retrieved and taken to the rural health unit where he was declared dead.
Capt. Alex Vizarra, town police chief, said no chemical affected the victim and he suffocated due to the extreme depth of the well and the lack of air at the bottom.
