Informal settlers in Quezon City will soon have a home of their own as the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) plans to establish a new housing project under the expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling met with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte at the Quezon City Hall on Thursday, Aug. 7, to explore a partnership focused on rental housing for the city residents, particularly informal settlers along danger zones.
“Iyan po ay isa sa mga priorities sa utos ni Pangulong Marcos Jr., ang dalhin sa ligtas at disente na lugar ang mga kababayan nating naninirahan sa mga danger zones (That is one of the priorities under the directive of President Marcos Jr., to relocate our fellow citizens living in danger zones to safe and decent areas),” Aliling said.
“I am glad that Mayor Belmonte and I share the same vision in pushing for rental housing in Quezon City,” he added.
Aliling previously ordered the inclusion of rental housing among the new modalities under the Expanded 4PH Program.
Belmonte expressed full support for the rental housing modality for her constituents, citing existing housing projects in the city with a similar scheme.
She shared that the city government is ready to allot land where the housing projects could be constructed.
“Super pabor po kami sa rental kasi hindi talaga kaya ng mga tao ang ownership for a highly urbanized dahil sa mahal ng lupa, so ngayon na magka-align na po tayo, rental housing na lang (We are very much in favor of rental scheme because people really cannot afford ownership in a highly urbanized area due to the high cost of land, so now that we are already aligned, we will just go for rental housing),” the lady mayor explained.
Belmonte said local government has identified a designated area at the heart of the city for the housing program. She said social preparations have already been completed for the targeted informal settlers so they could be relocated.
