Bacolod crime volume up in first 6 months

BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office reported an 18.66 percent increase in total crime volume in this highly-urbanized city from Jan. 1 to June 30.
A total of 731 crime incidents were recorded in the first six months, from 616 during the same period in 2024, an increase of 115 cases.
Index crimes which include offenses against persons and property increased by one, from 93 to 94, a 1.07 percent uptick.
Eight focus crimes, considered high-priority, declined by two cases from 93 to 91, a 2.15 percent decrease.
Among the focus crimes, theft topped with 23, followed by rape with 19; murder, 14; robbery, 13; homicide, 10; physical injuries, seven; motorcycle carnapping, four, and motor vehicle carnapping, one.
Homicide cases increased by six from four.
Police Lt. Col. Joery Puerto, head of the BCPO Operations Management Unit, attributed homicide cases to personal grudges or intoxication.
Physical injuries increased by two from five, and robbery went up by six cases from seven last year.
Rape dropped by 12 from 31 to 19, and theft by declined by three from 26 to 23.
Murder and motorcycle carnapping each dropped by one.
The peace and order indicator, which includes both index and non-index crimes, rose by 183 cases or 45.86 percent, from 399 in 2024 to 582 in 2025.
Puerto cited increased police action against illegal activities—such as drugs, loose firearms, and illegal gambling—as a key factor behind the overall rise in crime numbers.
Non-index crimes, including violations of special laws, spiked by 182 cases or 59.48 percent from 306 to 488.
Despite the overall increase, Puerto said the peace and order situation is under control.
He reassured the public that police presence and operations are being strengthened, especially through intensified campaigns against illegal drugs and loose firearms.
“There’s nothing to worry,” Puerto said.
Crime clearance efficiency slightly decreased from 99.84 percent to 99.73 percent. This means that suspects were not arrested, but cases have been filed, according to Puerto.
Crime solution efficiency improved from 90.75 percent to 91.52 percent. Puerto said suspects have been arrested and cases have been filed.
Puerto maintained that while the crime figures increased, they are not alarming, but a reflection of the police’s proactive efforts in addressing criminal activities across the city.
