100 MNLF fighters receive homes

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 100 former Moro National Liberation Front combatants have received housing units in line with the government’s Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Modified Shelter Assistance Program (MSAP) during turnover ceremonies in Barangay Taguisian, Mabuhay municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay province on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Armed Forces Western Mindanao commander Brig. Gen. Romulo Quemado II graced the event and said these housing units are tangible evidence of the collective efforts of all concerned agencies and a testament to the power of the whole-of-nation approach.

The housing project was described as the government’s “peace investment” designed to shelter families in conflict-affected and vulnerable communities.

“This project is a powerful convergence of vision and action. We extend our deepest gratitude to OPAPRU for their leadership in the peace process, and to the DSWD for their tireless work in implementing the Modified Shelter Assistance Project,” Quemado said.

The turnover was also attended by OPAPRU Executive Director Cesar de Mesa, Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Alan Tanjusay, Zamboanga Sibugay Gov. Dulce Ann Hofer, Mabuhay Mayor Edreluisa Caloñge, and 102nd Infantry Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Randolph Rojas.
